The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits jammy black currant and cherry fruit intermixed with cedar, spice box, and a whiff of toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied with excellent fruit, a supple texture, and an attractive, long finish, it can be drunk now and over the next decade. 91 Points (RMP)
The elegant 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is lighter than both the 2001 and 2002. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet perfume of black currants, charcoal smoke, cedar, and spicy new oak. With a lovely texture and supple tannin, it is already drinkable (unusual for a Venge red), but should last and improve for 10-14 years. 93 Points (RMP).
Bountiful red fruit dominates – raspberry, black cherry, sweet strawberry – accented invitingly with hints of exotic spice, gingerbread and a warm earthiness. There is a long lingering, chewy finish with the fruit supported by cola and cigar box. This sumptuous extract is balanced with bright acidity and softly framed by fine tannins.
The aromas are a decadent mixture of ripe cherries, Asian spices, sweet tobacco and vanillin. On the palate the wine is rich and mouth filling, with flavors of sweet tobacco, candied cherries and orange rinds. The wine has mild tannins. This wine is highly enjoyable now but will benefit from two to four more years of bottling aging to reach a peak of development.
