The 2000 Altagracia is a 900-case blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. An elegant, medium-weight Bordeaux-like red with good structure and grip, it offers aromas of tobacco, loamy soil, sweet licorice, and red as well as black fruits.
The results of all this aforementioned effort during a wet, mild and difficult year, was a 2000 wine, which is very rich and full-bodied. Deep red in color, with bountiful rich aromas and solid berry flavors, beefy tannin (enough to age for a while), elegant middle-mouth nuances and a lengthy finish of cedar, vanilla, cocoa, sage, and blackberry…Which makes for a delicious and drinkable wine…hmmm, sounds pretty, good. The total acid melds perfectly with the tannin to create a luscious, round middle-mouth flavor sensation.
Firm, dark, rich and concentrated, with intense, chewy tannins that match up well with layers of earthy currant, coffee, mint, blackberry, cedar, anise and spice. Rating: 91(WS)
